Electromagnetic Properties of the Ground: Part II - The Properties of Two Selected fine-Grained Soils
This paper presents an ambitious long term monitoring programme using Time Domain Reflectometry probes to monitor the electrical properties of an anthropogenic soil (urban soil). This goes beyond their traditional agricultural application usage. The fact that this station was still working and recording three years after construction is testament to the thoroughness and attention to detail achieved in providing a robust long-term monitoring station. It has provided an unprecedented insight into the links between geophysical and geotechnical properties with seasonal variations. This successful design has now been adopted by another research project led by Leeds University for investigating archaeological sites.
