Presenting a fundamental reassessment of Ezra Pound's relationship with European fascism, this monograph uses multiple archives in Britain, the US and Italy. These previously neglected materials demonstrate that, in addition to being a leading modernist, during the years 1935-1945 Pound was also a key propagandist for the Axis. Employing 'political religions' theory, Feldman introduces thousands of new documents bearing upon the infamous 'Pound case' - extending to speeches, propaganda strategies, payments and extensive correspondence. Throughout, this book embeds Pound's fascist activism in the historical context from which it has consistently been separated.
