Sperl’s contribution consisted in 1) providing and explaining the Arabic critical framework which is based on his previous research in Arabic poetry; 2) discussing the application of this framework to selected Ottoman Turkish poems with Dedes through a detailed joint analysis of texts; 3) making a first draft of the article taking account of the findings resulting from the joint reading; 4) finalising the text, taking account of comments and amendments supplied by Dedes. The article represents an indivisible joint effort resulting from the combined expertise by the two authors.
