Kang Hai sanqu ji jiaojian 康海散曲集校箋 [A Critical Edition of Kang Hai's Songs with Notes, and Two Essays]
Won 2 prizes in China: The Second Prize of the “2011 National Excellent Classic Books Award” (announced in September 2012); and The Second Prize of the XVth “Excellent Classic Books of East China Region Award" (announced in October 2012).
This book provides the first critical edition of Kang Hai’s (1475-1541) complete sanqu songs. It supersedes five existing modern editions of this influential writer as it includes, for the first time, the newly discovered 185 xiaoling songs and 82 song suites in a sixteenth-century collection widely believed to have been lost. This doubles the number of Kang Hai’s sanqu hitherto known in current scholarship and also adds considerably to the sources for the study of Ming dynasty sanqu. Two appended critical essays discuss the significance of these rediscovered songs and Kang Hai’s new style of qu poetry evident in them.
