Additional information

The chapter comprises Dr Rycroft’s response to a series of workshops entitled ‘Seeking Bridges between Anthropology and Indigenous Studies’ held at Oxford Brookes University in 2009-10. He was a core participant at this event, and indirectly informed the shape of edited volume by convening key areas, such as anthropology and Indigenous museology. His own written contribution, on India’s anthropological history in the pre-independence phase, shows why new approaches are needed on the issue of indigeneity in Asia that acknowledge the intercultural aspects of anthropological knowledge transfer.
