This output describes the theory, methodology and experimental results of a £2M, TSB-funded project “SUNTAN”. In the past twenty years, utilizing cryogenic RF device for MRI was only demonstrated in-vitro due to RF design challenges. This paper utilises a multi-disciplinary approach to optimise the Nitrogen-cooled RF probe for µm-resolution in-vivo imaging on a high-field whole-body MRI for the first time. The ultra-low-noise probe demonstrated a twofold signal enhancement compared with that from Philips Healthcare. This design has already been applied in a clinical environment with our collaborators from St. Thomas’ Hospital and is under further commercialization with Pulseteq Ltd (chris.randell@pulseteq.com).
