Double-weighted statement

Sonic Modernity draws on a wide range of anglophone materials as well as works translated from German, French and other European languages. In addition to examining both canonical and overlooked literary works the book deals with primary and theoretical texts relating to other artistic media, including music, film and painting; researching these materials involved acquiring new expertise, and considerable investment of time. Assembling a corpus of such breadth and depth required an unusually long period of primary research; and finalizing the structure of the book (five thematically arranged chapters plus introduction) required a protracted period of synthesis and organization.
