'Edward Thomas: The Annotated Collected Poems' is the culmination of several years of research into archival and prose materials, and is also enabled by a lifetime’s scholarship on Thomas's poetry. The textual uncertainty bequeathed by the poet posed complex editorial decisions for each poem included. The notes to each poem constitute a short critical essay, noting the poems’ manuscript sources and initial publications, the related prose writings, historical context, and textual variants. They required extensive archival research of manuscript holdings at five libraries in England and Wales, as well as the Berg collection in New York Public Library.
