Additional information

This paper presents the most comprehensive experimental study undertaken into the behaviour of geobag revetments for riverbank protection, and the outcomes have improved understanding of revetment failure modes, as well as identifying the limitations of 1D simulation approaches. Accordingly, the project findings are now being used in the development of the 3D numerical simulations needed to produce comprehensive design guidelines (see companion paper DOI:10.1061/(ASCE)HY.1943-7900.0000724). The project was a collaboration between ERPE and Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (Bangladesh), and a follow up project to extend the research is now underway.
