This is a major work addressing a novel type of compound that can be constructed using an efficient chemical approach. Using systematic variations in chemical substituents and their positions within the molecules, a series of related compounds was developed and fully characterised. Structure property relationships in the intramolecular charge transfer properties of these materials are determined and utilised, and now available for future exploitation.
