The research (in collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China) demonstrated that the autonomic nervous system can be observed from pulse rate variability extracted from photoplethymsography. This cost-effective method/device is being evaluated for application in intraoperative cerebral hemodynamic monitoring, in collaboration with our colleagues in Medical school of SJTU, yszhu@sjtu.edu.cn.
