Additional information

The volume is a primary source of reference on W.S Jones’s dramatic and theatrical work that offers new arguments for, and possibilities of, thinking both about Jones’s own work and Welsh language drama and theatre in general. Editorship was shared equally with regard to the commisioning, planning and editing of contributions. There is, however, a substantial chapter (pp. 89-157) authored by Jones that is key to realising the volume’s ambition to open up an intellectually inspiring discourse to a broad target audience.

English abstract

This co-edited volume on the theatrical output of W. S. Jones is a primary point of reference for critical engagement with the work of a significant Welsh language dramatist. The edition includes a substantial contribution by Jones analysing all W.S. Jones’s published plays and some unpublished material in order to investigate the development of a dramatic practice that draws on a distinctively performative awareness of nationhood. The study opens W.S. Jones’ work up to a broad range of specialist and lay audiences and offers new ways of thinking both about this work and other comparable Welsh-medium drama.
