Institutional approaches for carbon financing in the forest sector: learning lessons for REDD+ from forest carbon projects in Uganda
Significance of output:
Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) is high on the international agenda, with over 40 tropical countries planning national programmes. Based on a Ford Foundation funded study with the Overseas Development Institute, this paper contributes to the debate about how REDD+ funds will be distributed to forest-adjacent communities. It provides an early analysis of three forest-based carbon offset projects in Uganda, highlighting the livelihood impacts that varying institutional arrangements can have on the opportunities for the poor rural producers involved.
