Significance of output:

A modelling algorithm was developed to predict the adaptation of bone in the hip in response to biomechanical changes following insertion of a hip replacement. The study indicated the influence of the stem design upon clinically observed loosening failures with traditional implants, and has informed the development of a first-of-kind resurfacing implant system, patent pending, now owned by DePuy International, and CE-marked for clinical use in Europe.
