Significance of output:

This paper describes a tool for calculating losses from Near Earth Object (NEO) impacts. Richard Crowther (richard.crowther@ukspaceagency.bis.gsi.gov.uk), Head of the UK delegation to the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and chairman of the UN Working Group on NEOs, states: “This work provides a critical tool for governments developing science-based policy to mitigate the consequences of a NEO impact. It allows civil contingency groups to prepare appropriate measures in affected areas and informs operational decisions. The tool stands ready for use by UK/UN.” The paper also contributed to the success of a €200,000 European Space Agency grant.
