Jacques Derrida and the Institution of French Philosophy
To assess Derrida’s work on philosophy as an institution in France, it was necessary to construct a complex, unusually broad interdisciplinary framework (including Sociology of Scientific Knowledge, history of disciplines, historiography of philosophy as a discipline, Analytic, Post-Analytic and Continental Philosophy, French Studies, Critical Theory and Literary Theory, history and sociology of education, history of French education and institutionalisation of knowledge in relation to the history and philosophy of the university). This is evidenced in the 24 page, 1,000+ entry Bibliography and the extensive references and footnotes. The book is 115,000 words. Archival material unavailable elsewhere was collected in Paris.
