Additional information

Dr Gray was invited to contribute this to an internationally-published collection in consequence of her work on the St Teilo‘s Project. The church from Llandeilo Talybont, now at the National History Museum at St Fagan‘s, had a surprising amount of complex text in its medieval wall paintings. In this study Dr Gray considered the significance of text in medieval wall paintings in England and Wales and discusses their possible meaning for viewers who, while illiterate in the modern sense of the word, were clearly members of

'textual communities‘.
