On the integration of CO2 capture with coal-fired power plants : A methodology to assess and optimise solvent-based post-combustion capture systems
A novel methodology to rigorously assess the performance of CO2 capture and compression processes applied to fossil power plants was developed. While applicable to any capture process, it was advanced further for commonly-used solvent-based processes. It was adopted independently in an industrial study for an Australian coal power plant as “best practise guidelines in the published literature” (http://cdn.globalccsinstitute.com/sites/default/files/publications/91896/post-combustion-carbon-capture-thermodynamic-modelling.pdf)
The advanced integration concepts discussed are being applied to solid-based capture process in power plants on a joint China/EPSRC grant (EP/I010939/1, £570k led by Brandani) and in a PhD project at Edinburgh (Sanchez del Rio).
