Additional information

This study was the first to quantify evidence of the weaknesses of modelling of fire in buildings with impact on the use of CFD models globally. It was featured in the one-hour BBC Horizon “Skyscraper Fire Fighters” (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/horizon/broadband/tx/firegrid/), shown in over 30 countries. The results are incorporated in CFD model manuals (https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B-EZ4HlrI6VDUWtRN1N0MmM5c1U/edit?pli=1#docId=0B_wB1pJL2bFQel91N2prdHVsWjg) and publications (DoI:10.1080/10618562.2010.541393) that directly influence industrial practice. The work led to the DTI funded FireGrid (£1.2M) and the EPSRC “Real Fires in Tall Buildings” (EP/J001937/1, £1.6M) projects.
