Additional information

This paper reported the discovery of the spontaneously arising Hydrothermal Waves in evaporating drops. Preliminary results appeared on the cover of Heat Transfer Engineering (Vol. 29, No. 7, 05.2009). The work has inspired follow-on studies; France (DoI: 10.1017/jfm.2012.446), Japan (Y. Takata, Kyushu) and Canada (charles.ward@utoronto.ca). Sefiane was appointed Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellow by invitation, to set-up a research programme at Kyushu University (2011), leading to further JSPS continuation funding (Prof. Takata, takata@mech.kyushu-u.ac.jp , JSPS-24246038, 2012-14, 31M YEN, with Sefiane as a named Investigator).
