The paper proposed a new index and metric for calculating carbon intensity of different renewable-based energy generation options in urban environments. All relevant commercially-available technology options are included in this techno-economic study of Greater London, permitting direct and transparent comparison of their potential to reduce CO2 emissions. The work is being developed further by MIT in Abu-Dhabi (DoI:10.1061/(ASCE)EY.1943-7897.0000042).
