Additional information

This multidisciplinary work proposes a new method, combining experiment and mathematical modelling, for measuring the extracellular serotonin concentration in the intestine. Constant potential amperometry is utilised to characterise transmission properties of different intestine tissues and the efficacy of pharmacological agents such as fluoxetine (Prozac). Findings of this work have been presented at Pittcon, the world's annual premier Conference and Exposition on laboratory science, which is organised by the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, and at the 30th Annual International Conference of the IEEE engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, ‘Personalised Healthcare through Technology’.
