Additional information

The main contribution of this sole-authored paper is that, for the first time, two promising systems, the microcellular system and the distributed antenna system, for future high data rate wireless communications are theoretically compared in terms of average spectral efficiency and cell edge spectral efficiency. The results of this paper provided important guidelines for practical system designs on how to reuse frequency in multi-cellular systems. The preliminary conference version of this paper received a Best Paper Award at the flagship conference of the IEEE Communications Society, IEEE Global Communications Conference (Globecom) 2011, Houston, USA.
