This paper follows Young’s work on photonic crystal waveguides funded by EPSRC grant (GR/S43573) and was part of a collaborative project with the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Cardiff. The paper presents a new technique for solving, exactly, the propagation characteristics of open waveguides and is applied to the important application of a chain of metallic nanocylinders.
