Additional information

The work had its origins in EPSRC funded research projects to develop Secure Autonomous Document Models (GR/N37803/01) and to produce a scheme for secure access without the need for biometric templates (EP/C00793X/1) which have since resulted in the award of a patent (US 8,165,289 B2, Method and apparatus for the generation of code from pattern features, Date Issued: April 24, 2012). By using a genetic algorithm to derive a nearly optimal quantization of the feature space, the proposed system avoids the need for storing the biometric templates and/or the encryption keys thus enhancing security and privacy.
