Characteristics of atrial fibrillation cycle length predict restoration of sinus rhythm by catheter ablation
Catheter ablation is a very promising emerging therapy for atrial fibrillation, but success rates are highly variable. The ability to predict those individuals in which ablation will be successful would reduce unnecessary risks in other patients and reduce costs to the NHS. In this British Heart Foundation funded study with NHS collaborators, we show that parameters which quantify the organisation of the invasive electrogram recordings prior to ablation are highly predictive of success. This directly led to research to assess prediction of ablation success non-invasively from body surface electrocardiograms, which is currently under review for publication.
