Additional information

In this paper, Material Flows Accounting (MFA) is presented as a biophysical indicator of macroeconomic sustainability. The Italian case study is presented and analysed for the time period 1980-2001. In addition, the IPAT equation has been used to investigate the main drivers of material flow variations.

It was the first time that the MFA-IPAT was used to investigate the socio-economic driving forces of Italian material consumption.
