The paper demonstrates for the first time that Basic Oxygen Steel Slag, a byproduct from the steel industry, can be used to remove phosphate from contaminated waters. Few studies have characterized reactive media for phosphorus (P) removal in passive treatment systems in terms of both batch and continuous flow experiments.
