Additional information
Plasmonic structures developed separately (ref: Plasmonics, 6 (4) 2011 pp. 625-636) have since been introduced into the microfluidic cavity reported here, thus leading to a resonant biosensor. This hybrid plasmonic structure has been published by Baragwanath (Gallant’s PhD student) in his doctoral thesis (under embargo due to potential IP exploitation) and is being further funded by an EPSRC KTA award which is exploring the hybrid structure’s use for the detection of small changes in dielectric properties, with specific application to the field of bovine semen sexing.
