Challenges in the capture and dissemination of measurements from high-speed networks
Details a novel network measurement architecture produced by a UK government funded collaborative project with Cambridge and Loughborough universities. We detail the hardware and network architecture and the measurement experiments. The collaboration in this project led to the funding of the ALIEN EU project (total €1.9M) including a collaboration with Dell Computers (contact Marc Bruyere). One of the outcomes of this work was that the interactions between the several layers of the OSI stack were being overlooked and can be made better if the several Internet subsystems work together better producing more efficient network system at negligible extra costs.
