Significance of output:

A self-aligned fabrication process ensures consistent performance, whilst retaining excellence. When 40Gb/s silicon modulators were demonstrated with good performance, this was regarded as the upper end of likely data rates for silicon devices. This paper demonstrated that improved performance was possible. Wide coverage led directly to numerous invited talks (8 in 12 months), and an invitation to submit a significant grant proposal to technology giant Huawei (pending). Consolidated Reed’s group as world’s premier silicon modulator group.
