Additional information

This paper is a scientific contribution towards the management of an internationally protected and unique wetland system, informing our collaborators from the Chilean Forestry Service. Study showed how this and other lagoon systems in central Chile function under alternate dynamic equilibriums, connected or not to the sea. As far as it is known, nobody had previously used Fourier analysis to show the alternate modes for the particular case of the hydrologic balance of lagoons. A book chapter followed in 2012 ("Humedales Costeros de Chile: Aportes Científicos a su Gestión Sustentable" ISBN 978-956-14-259-0) with collaborator ecologist J Farina (U Catolica, Chile).
