Decline in microbial activity does not necessarily indicate an end to biodegradation in MSW-biowaste: a case study
This paper describes a project that developed from industry funded research (£5K) into quality standards of treated municipal waste.
It showed that generally adopted tests did not provide a good indicator of quality, which has strong implications on the treatment of waste and its subsequent (de-)classification.
The results were included in reports for a large Scottish Government (SG) funded project (£900K), which defines the SG position on the use of treated waste (ISBN 0755925815).
The project provided postgraduate training and was conducted in close collaboration with the Scottish Government, Stirling University and SEPA.
