Additional information

This paper provides empirical evidence that links firm level competition to technological evolution at the industry level. It is arguably the first research piece that provides an empirical basis for a link between convergence over time and simplicity (fixation with a strategic orientation at a point in time). The research site is that of a design contest, also very pertinent given the recent interest shown in this domain by scholars interested in studying competition, performance feedback and innovation. Implications for decisions about technological shifts and adoption that can be related to by firms in their competitive landscapes are very significant.
