Additional information

There is renewed interest in use of air as a natural working fluid in refrigeration and heat pump systems rather than artificial refrigerants with high Global Warming Potentials. This paper describes the design, construction and testing of a novel air cycle system targeted at high temperature cooking combined with low temperature freezing. For such applications, air cycle can be competitive in terms of environmental impact and operating costs, and is typically more reliable. The work was part of a Defra-funded industrial Link project and has led on to further EC-funded air cycle research in project Frisbee (Grant Agreement 245288, 2009-2014).
