Additional information

The original research in this paper describes refrigeration technologies with an overall aim of fostering the development of technologies and practices to reduce the energy inputs into food refrigeration. The project was carried out with financial support from DEFRA. The novelty is in the technology transfer idea and the comparison criteria drawn for this study plus the analysis of the likely future applications of the technologies to the food sector and barrier to their uptake. This paper has encouraged further research work to develop some of the technologies investigated in this paper. Verification: Miriam Rodway, Institute of Refrigeration (Miriam@ior.org.uk).
