Additional information

The thinness, relative porosity and poor levelling ability of PVD films adversely affects their wider application in general engineering. This paper shows that a new polymer interlayer can overcome these difficulties and determines the conditions necessary to prevent cracking. This EU-funded research provides a possible cleaner alternative to electroplating for some products and identifies potential applications in automotives, furniture, domestic cookers, hand tools and surgical instruments.
