Method for forming a sector for a nacelle lip skin
This unique manufacturing process enables the previously impossible commercially viable production of laminar flow inlet cowls. The initial patent was filed in July 2008 and through Invest NI funding, totalling over £230K, demonstrated to MRL4 with patents subsequently granted in over 30 countries in 2012. GKN are currently using the patented process in a Response For Information request (rob.sharman@gknaerospace.com). The prototype system was demonstrated at the 2011 Paris Air Show and also resulted in a winning team entry for the 2010 Northern Ireland Science Park 25K award and All Island Seedcorn funding for a University Spin out from InterTradeIreland.
