Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Treated Carbon Fibre Weave: A Flexible Approach to Wound Monitoring
An industrial collaboration with Lifescan Scotland (contacts: Christopher Leach, CLeach@its.jnj.com and Marco Cardosi, MCardosi@its.jnj.com) to investigate the use of high throughput atmospheric plasma processes for activating woven carbon fibre. The latter has immediate relevance to smart bandage applications and its application to blood analysis is demonstrated. The report highlights the applicability of the approach for the economic production of large volume, mechanically flexible materials that possess sufficient electrical conductivity for use in sensing applications. The materials provide a generic substrate and sensing platform for use in a host of smart textile applications.
