A disposable sensor for point of care wound pH monitoring
First report of an electrochemical system for monitoring wound pH and thus provides an accessible diagnostic option for the early detection of infection in patients with diabetic foot disease. The latter costs the NHS approximately £630m/pa to treat. The work was done in conjunction with Lifescan Scotland (a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson, contact: Marco Cardosi, MCardosi@its.jnj.com) and involved the design and development of a complete screen printed sensing device solution. The outcomes led to two invention disclosures (under evaluation) and funding from the Royal Academy of Engineering to enable the collaborative visit of Prof Meixian Li (Peking University).
