Focused waves and wave-structure interaction in a numerical wave tank
This work informed professional practise in offshore structure design and was supported by EPSRC/Pelamis (d.pizer@pelamiswavepower.com)/Atkins (Rod.Rainey@atkinsglobal.com), who need to understand the capabilities of CFD and CD-adapco (ashkan.davoodi@cd-adapco)/ANSYS (Ian.jones@ansys.com), who apply their codes. Naval architects/designers use CFD for simulating fluid-structure interaction and complex secondary features seen in physical experiments and this work demonstrates the abilities and limitations thereof; it also provides evidence to support the use of commercial CFD for extreme wave interaction applications. ScienceDirect lists the paper as one of the Top25 papers published in Ocean Engineering in 2012 and the work is continuing via further 4 EPSRC projects.
