On the dynamic behavior of three readily available soft tissue simulants
Dynamic tissue simulants are used to investigate blast and ballistic related events. This research, for the first time, compared three simulants to understand how their behaviour in the shock regime relates to tissues within the body. This work led to greater accuracy in the use of diagnostic methods at Cranfield (see Appleby-Thomas et al., J. Mech. Behav. Biomed. 2013) and the important strain regimes needed to replicate blast and ballistic event (see Nguyen et al. Methods of Controlled Shock Wave Generation in A Shock Tube for Biological Applications APS Shock compression of condensed matter 2013 in print) [James Wilgeroth, j.wilgeroth@imperial.ac.uk].
