Fracture toughness of high performance concrete subjected to elevated temperatures: the effects of heating temperatures and testing conditions (hot and cold)
This paper presented the pioneering experimental work on the fracture toughness of high performance concrete at elevated high temperatures in the world. This facilitated the application of fracture mechanics to the development of high performance concrete with high strength, high toughness and low brittleness, the safety design of concrete structures subjected to fire and the numerical simulation of concrete structures subjected to high temperatures. This led to collaboration with internationally renowned universities, e.g. Glasgow University in Scotland and Tongji University in Shanghai, and led to new research ideas and the start of a series of research papers in this field.
