Winner of ASME Turbo-Expo 2010 Heat Transfer Committee Best Paper Award. This work led to a step change in the confidence with which coupled fluid-solid predictions can be made. The Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 development experienced significant challenges because of uncertainties in thermomechanical modelling. The reduction in uncertainty gained through the validation presented here has led to wider take-up of the methods within Rolls-Royce (ID_in_audit_file@rolls-royce.com) as well as exploitation by other partners of a recent EU FP6 consortium (TATEF II): Siemens; Avio; Turbomeca; SNECMA; Alstom; ITP and MTU.
