Orientation of polyoxymethylene by rolling with side constraints
International collaboration supported by British Council grant (WAR/342/22) to enable PDRA on EPSRC research grant (GR/R80087/01) to spend time at Galeski’s world leading centre for polymer engineering at Lodz. Novelty arises from application of compressive stress field during processing of highly oriented polymer by rolling with side constraints. It is demonstrated that the tensile voiding that causes premature fracture in die-drawn orientation processing is suppressed. This understanding has led to optimisation of the die-drawing processing conditions to make this an economically viable production route, now being exploited by industry (Contact: Johannes Verwaayen, Technical Director, Bridon – verwaayenj@bridon.com).
