An integrated view of data quality in earth observation
<15> Geospatial datasets are increasing in availability and scope; this work addresses challenges faced by users when assessing dataset fitness-for-use due to incomplete metadata and varying definitions of geospatial data quality. Based on extensive empirical user evidence, the paper (www.geoviqua.org - €4M FP7 project with 9 academic/commercial partners) provides tools and objective, comparable quality indicators enabling reasoned dataset selection decisions. The information model and schemas (http://schemas.geoviqua.org/) are an active topic within GEO (http://www.earthobservations.org/docshow.php?id=129, Contact: tmano@geosec.org) and in NASA’s discussions on adoption of ISO standards 19115/19157 (http://earthdata.nasa.gov/wiki/main/index.php/ISO_19115_Home/ Contact: andrew.e.mitchell@nasa.gov). NOAA will evaluate the user feedback implementation (jeff.delabeaujardiere@noaa.gov).
