Performers: Chris Johns, April Nunes, Amanda Price

Director: Antje Deidrich

Climbing Walls is the result of a creative collaboration between Alternative Therapist Professor Chris Johns, Dance Practitioner, Dr April Nunes, and Performance Practitioner, Dr Amanda Price. The text is taken from the Reflective Journals kept by Chris during his therapeutic treatment of ‘Ann’ throughout the diagnosis of her breast cancer and the medical interventions that followed. The dance and performance elements of the piece are creative responses to the original text.

Climbing Walls is part of an on-going research project in which the participants explore ways in which performance aids and enhances reflection upon practice for professionals working in the medical and health-related professions. The embodied nature of performance invites detailed consideration and complex dialogue concerning the relationship of the body and mind to illness and suffering, and to the professional treatment of disease.
