Additional information

This edited book arose out of a British Academy funded conference jointly organised by Paddison and Dr Adrian Pabst, both then at the University of Nottingham. The conference and the subsequent book focused on issues raised by Pope Benedict’s first volume on the Jesus of the Gospels. This was the first time a serving Pope had written so extensively on the issue of the ‘Jesus of History’ and the ‘Christ of Faith’, and the book’s wide range of contributors were drawn together to do justice to the Pope’s contribution to a vital debate in theology. Paddison's chapter, ‘Following Jesus with Pope Benedict’, was intended to explore how questions of history and scriptural reading are connected with discipleship.
