Additional information

This article describes the engineering of highly specific and versatile chemical tools that represent an alternative to traditional molecular beacons for sensing nucleic acid secondary structures. It was published in a general Chemistry journal with a broad readership and its originality was recognized by the editor selecting it as a “hot paper”. A 3-year Research Grant based on this work and aiming to explore nucleic acid folding in vivo has recently been awarded by the Leverhulme Trust (RPG-2012-603, £175k, Jan 2013-Dec 2015).
