Additional information

<17>This was the first work to look at the more realistic scenario when the learner is not explicitly told for which task the training examples are presented. The study presented empirical evidence of mutual benefits between multiple tasks. It has been identified by the follow up work as agenda-setting and defining the concept of multitask learning (e.g., Fan, 2011); and the main advance of this work, applicability of online learning mechanism to multitask learning, has been extensively studied by other researchers (e.g. Ng & Lam, 2012).
